I made a simple drone “trainer” for rescuing a drone or two. It provides an environment for you to learn how to fly a drone without hitting the ground and end the activity in less than a minute.

Use a $2 app with unlimited retries instead of a $20 test drone that may only have one use, of your choice.

The “game” is very simple, hopefully developing a fine sense of real flight controls, and isn’t supposed to be a die-hard drone simulation. More of a “practice in the parking lot before you hit the main road” type of game. What you see is what you get, but I made the damn game and can add some stuff later.

There are three ways to play; viewing the drone itself directly, through the screen on the controller, or through a head-mounted display can be used to learn the basics of first-person flying.

Notable features:

Direct! If you want to fly at home, tap under the player’s right wrist to toggle.

HMD/FPV! There is an option to put on a “headset” to get a true fpv view; press the left trigger to toggle modes, it’s the “button” under the “Warning HMD” mode layout.

There’s a “Camera” mode to help practice beautiful shots that require coordination of flying at odd angles; or tilt the camera up to get that first-person perspective feel!

Dual rate (think control sensitivity) is enabled to maximum to ensure new pilots can get used to the input, turning it off provides cleaner input; the overall becomes more acrobatic.
