Taiwanese director Tsai Ming-liang often thinks about his childhood memories, memories so vivid that he thought they couldn’t be translated into film. In this episode, he shows us why that’s the case, paying homage to his grandparents, who took him to two movies a night.

“Rhapsody of the Master” is a five-part VR documentary series that gives unproduced films a chance to be seen. Using volumetric capture technology, film directors Abel Ferrara, Tsai Ming-Liang, Catherine Hardwicke, Lee Myung-Se and Naomi Kawase tell us about the key concepts behind these films and why they were never made.

This series was originally written by Joseph Beauregard and directed by French director Clermont. Directed by Clément Deneux, it is co-produced by Atlas V of France, ARTE France, the British BBC, Taiwan Public Television PTS, Serendipity Films, Luxembourg Wild Fang Films, and South Korea’s Giioii.
