Circle1 aims to be the ultimate disc golf simulator for VR. We combine realistic flight models based on actual disc physics with virtual experiences built from the ground up, focusing on immersion and performance on mobile and desktop VR platforms. Circle1 is currently in pre-release and we are working with our community of testers to ensure the quality of our virtual disc golf experience is exceptional.
Features
Realistic physics model:
We spent a year working with the disc golfer community and consulting with physicists to build a great disc simulation. In Circle1, each disc is modeled with its own personality and flight characteristics based on real-world physics and wind tunnel testing. Creating the most authentic disc golf experience ever is not just our goal, it’s our obsession.
Throwing line:
Set your desired release point and angle using the throw line, which will help correct for slight errors caused by VR tracking to simulate your desired release. Circle1 rewards good movement and accurate shots without penalizing players for the limitations of VR.
High performance:
Circle1 is built from the ground up with a focus on performance. Every part of the game—from physics simulation to lighting—is designed for modern VR headsets. The Oculus Quest 2 version of Circle1 currently runs comfortably at 90 FPS.
Platform independent:
This game is built with all modern headsets in mind. Although our current version is specific to the Oculus platform, this is by no means a technical or implementation limitation that prevents Circle1 from being played on other VR headsets. Our goal is to bring Circle1 to all popular VR platforms.
Program disc texture:
Each disc in Circle1 has its own personality. Each disc’s skin is procedurally generated using similar techniques used in real-world disc staining.
Target physics and sound effects:
We pay special attention to modeling and simulating the reaction of Frisbees and disc golf targets. This included not only modeling the physical effects of collisions between different areas of the target, but also manually recording hundreds of audio samples to simulate the sound of a disc impact.
Customized music:
Circle1 works with artists to create custom music for game menus and practice areas.
